[slurm-users] submit from node w/ different OS?

Morning All.

I'm attempting to set up a new submit host with a different OS (major)
version than the compute cluster. Should this be doable?

I have an OpenMPI app I can submit, using sbatch and qsub, from a cluster
node and it runs fine. However, when I submit from the new host it fails.
Initially I didn't have the compiler or OpenMPI even installed on the new
submit host which resulted in missing library errors. So I installed them
even though they'll never be used on the new host. Now I'm fighting OpenMPI
errors. It seems like incorrect settings or information are being gathered
from the new submit host and then applied on the compute nodes. I don't
care about the environment of the new submit host at all though. I just
want it to be able to launch jobs with apps that have been built on the
cluster. Does a submit host have to be the same OS as a compute cluster?
